Allan Graham Jones

Allan was born in New Zealand in the late 50’s and was educated at St Andrews College in Christchurch going on to complete an Aircraft Engineering Apprenticeship for Air New Zealand. 

Following his apprenticeship in 1983 ,he qualified as a NZCAA approved Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer.

Allan specialised on the engine side of the Air New Zealand business and was involved primarily with Rolls Royce Darts, Pratt & Whitney JT8D’s and APU’s.

In 1987 Allan was the recipient of the New Zealand Craftsman Training Foundation Award and spent 12 months working at Rolls Royce Derby on RB211-535E4, RB211-524G/H and IAE V2500A1 engines.

He then returned to Air New Zealand and progressed through roles including Shop Planner, Production & Test Cell Foreman and into Senior Management as the Materials Repair Manager. Allan also assisted Aloha Airlines & AirTran as their on site Powerplant Manager. He was instrumental in establishing the Materials organisation within the Christchurch Engine facility, which broke new ground with engine purchase, sale and teardown activities. He also led the team which managed the induction of the 1st Federal Express JT8D, a customer who has brought over USD500 million of revenue to Christchurch.

During 2000 Allan was part of the Senior Management Team which negotiated the Air New Zealand / Pratt & Whitney Joint Venture which started in 2001 as the Christchurch Engine Centre, with capability on the full range of RR Dart, P&W JT8D, and IAE V2500 products.

During his time with the Christchurch Engine Centre Allan’s positions included Operations Manager, Materials Repair Manager and Manager Materials Logistics.

His range of experience includes airfreight & logistics, aviation regulatory requirements, facilities management, strategic planning, new product introduction, aero engine & parts trading, shop visit workscoping, asset management, aviation engineering and general management.

Allan joined TES Aviation Group in September 2008 and relocated with his wife and daughters in April 2009 from New Zealand to Wales. He presently holds the role of Materials and Acquisitions Director.

With over 30 years in commercial aviation, Allan developed strong strategic thinking skills and has a profound drive to be aware of emerging trends and activities in the global aviation industry. This has provided him with a solid foundation to enhance the sustainability and improve the returns to all stakeholders in the organisations he has served.
