Mat was born in 1971, in Cardiff. He was educated at Loughborough University where he gained a 2:1 in Modern European Studies and French.
Mat joined Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) from University and qualified as a Chartered Accountant (ACA) in 1997.
His first major role was with Corus, based in France, where his fluency in French made him ideally situated to put into practice his specially honed skills, working on the financial integration of acquired business.
In 2001, Mat joined the TES Group as Financial Controller, where his role was encompassed the more traditional duties associated with the financial and strategic responsibilities of a Group Financial Director. He soon demonstrated his ability to contribute to the legal, commercial and funding aspects of Engine and Aircraft acquisitions and whilst retaining the title of Financial Director, his range of expertise spread across the entire spectrum of the TES Aviation Group’s business.
Mat’s recent achievements include managing the financial and corporate aspects of the acquisition of 78% of TES Aviation’s shareholding, by the highly successful DVB Bank – the leading specialist in international transport finance. Mat also spent considerable time and effort to locate, refurbish and oversee the smooth transition of bringing together the two TES sites, at St Athan and Abercynon, under one roof, in the prestigious 130,000 sq ft building on the Waterton Industrial Estate in Bridgend.
Mat holds a Diploma in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors (IOD) of London which he gained in 2006. He sits on the Board of Directors of TES Holdings and all of it's subsidiaries and fulfils the role of second in command to the CEO. He is supported by a Financial Controller, and a team of ten financial, IT and facilities management staff.
Mat is married and has two children. His interests include rugby and water-sports; mainly windsurfing.
